MWS Devils Black are the EBL's 2019 11U Division IA Champions. They finish the Tournament going 3-1 to capture the title. Coming into the championship game, we knew we would be playing a very well respected, disciplined, and talented Kings team said coach Jeff. We came out focused, energized, and on a mission to take home some hardware. In order to do this, taking an early lead was going to be crucial. Early on, we sparked for two runs and it was time to rely on our pitching and defense, which has been a high point all season for our squad. Our starting pitcher, Mikey Chagnon, came out of the gates firing and put together 4 1/3 solid innings, which set up Ian Carter to come in and shut down the last 1 2/3 innings.
The Kings didn’t go down without a fight though. They had runners in scoring position with less than two outs in each of the last two innings and were threatening to tie or take the lead with one swing of the bat. Fortunately, our pitching was complimented with an array of spectacular plays. This included back to back innings with double plays to put a stop to potential pivotal moments, one ultimately solidifying the victory. Between pitching, defense, and timely hitting, I couldn’t have asked for a better effort out of our squad. It was a great showcase for all of the hard work the boys have put in for the last couple of months and truly a proud moment for our program.
