What a terrific tournament!  The Westford Junior Ghosts came in looking for their first ever tournament championship…a lofty goal for a team all from the small town of Westford Massachusetts! They started their run on Friday night in Northborough against a scrappy GBG Hawks team.  After a slow start, the Ghosts bats burst into life putting up 12 runs in just two innings.  Starting pitcher Tyler Eliasen pitched 3 no hit innings and the Ghosts won game one 12-0.

Game two came on Saturday night against Fury Navy.  This was a terrific game under the lights at Sawyer Park.  In the end Fury Navy took it 7-5, but this wouldn’t be the last meeting for these two teams. The loss on Saturday dropped the Westford Ghosts to 1-1 and that meant they had a steep climb if they wanted to capture the championship…they would have to win 3 games in 8 hours on Sunday to do it.

First up…the SM River Rats…a tight game early but the Ghost bats caught fire again.  JJ Funaro got a complete game victory on the mound and Tournament MVP Owen Boyer went 3-3 with 6 RBI's and the Ghost won going away 10-3.

Next up, NE Hurricanes Salisbury…On just two days rest, Tyler Eliasen pitched another gem…a complete game 1 hitter with 6 strikeouts for his second win of the tourney! Jack Janowsky went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's while Billy Chiasson, David Burke and Ben Durgin all contributed 2 hits each in the 10-1 victory.

Finally, the championship game, and how fitting, the Ghosts had to face the one team who managed to beat them, Fury Navy.  Navy advanced to the championship thanks to a walk- off win in the semi finals.  Fury jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead after 2 innings and, once again, it looked like they had the Ghosts number.  The Ghosts would not be beaten on this day though…they scored 7 runs in the next 3 innings thanks to key hits from Ryan Snow and Cooper Durgin.  Championship game MVP Billy Chiasson got the win on the mound while Nic Bonica came in for the save, which included an amazing 1-2-3 double play to seal the win!
