In pool play Southern Maine River Rats opened with Freedom Baseball the top team in D2 American League, who dominated in a regular season double header 2 weeks earlier.  It was a tight competitive and well played game with the River Rats holding a 3 run lead into the 6th inning, Freedom came back with timely hits and heads up base running to take the walk off win. The  River Rats bounced back from the disappointing loss with a win vs Plympton Crush and earned the 3 seed with the win. Semi Finals was a match up of #2 Hurricanes Salem and #3 River Rats another great game with solid defense and clutch hitting until the River Rats pulled away for a 7-3 victory to earn a spot in the championship game and rematch with Freedom Baseball for the hardware.

Knowing each other well by now, both teams were ready to leave everything they had left on the field.  True to form it was a nail biter with great plays by both sides and digging deep into pitching depth.  The River Rats we’re finally able to breakthrough with timely  big hits lead by Ryan Alexander, All Tournament Team MVP, hitting over .600 for the weekend. The game ended with a defensive gem by Keenan Farrell as Freedom was fighting for another come back, with runners on 7-3 game and 1 out, Farrell made a diving catch on a hard hit sinking line drive to left, got back to his feet and threw a dart to first baseman Ryan Shugars for the game ending, Championship winning play. The River Rats got contributions during the tournament from all 12 players, there were a few standouts, but the championship was a total team win.
