The 13U Devils Gold were crowned champs of the 13U division 2 EBL Tournament after playing a great weekend of baseball at Tufts University.  In the first game of the tournament the Devils defeated the New England Salisbury Hurricanes 15-0.  Cam Delprete tossed a 3 inning no hitter while the bats rattled off 15 hits.  The Devils had a tough afternoon game that day. They were defeated 15-5 by the Maine Lightning gold.  Even after the tough loss the Devils were able to obtain the 2 seed in the tournament for Sunday.  In Sunday’s semifinal game the Devils faced off against the New England Salem Hurricanes Red. Derek Hatherley threw a gem for the Devils.  He had a perfect game going into the fifth inning and ended up finishing with 7 innings, 5Ks, 5 hits, 1 walk, 1 run, and the win.  Mason Baldic was all over the place making plays for the Devils including a superman diving catch in right.  Jason Girard and Dean Reap both finished with an RBI while Charlie Petruney scored 2 of the Devils 3 runs to send them to the championship game.

In the championship game the Devils saw the Maine Lightning for the second time. The Devils got off to an early start when Charlie Petruney reached on an error and later came around to score on a sac fly from Jason Girard.  The Lightning answered in the third inning after a single by Faherty drove in Burham.  In the fifth inning, Derek Hatherley and Jack Sullivan got the Devils going again by leading off the inning with back to back singles.  Charlie Petruney came up and hit a line drive into the left center gap to drive them both in to take the 3-1 lead.  The Lightning had the bases loaded in the final inning only down 2 runs with a chance to win it.  With only one out a fly ball was hit into foul territory behind third base.  Trent Salyards came out of nowhere and made an amazing diving catch to record the second out of the inning.  Jason Girard was able to get the next batter to groundout to Dean Reap at short to win the Championship for the Devils.  Jason Girard finished the game tossing 7 innings, 4ks, 4 hits, 3 walks, and 1 earned run. Girard earned himself Championship game MVP for his amazing performance on the mound while Charlie Petruney earned all-tournament team honors.  Charlie went 6 for 11 with 3 doubles, 2 RBIs, and 6 runs scored over the weekend.  Jacob Stifel and Charlie Petruney were amazing behind the plate and the rest of the boys played lockdown defense all weekend.
